The diamond jubilee bracket! Here’s how our 75th anniversary B.C. boys all-time first-round games played out

NORTH DELTA — Our learned basketball elders have spoken.

After what were surely furious debates, they have delivered the opening-round results in our BCHSBBA 75th anniversary All-Time B.C. Boys Basketball Tournament Bracket.

As one member of the panel said to me: “If half the people are happy and the other half furious, then I guess we nailed it.”

Really, we expect no less.

A lifetime of pride has been invested in the memory of each and every team selected, and for that matter not selected.

So classy, good-natured discussion is what we hope is the end result, as per this tremendous Twitter posting by Aaron Mitchell, the St. Thomas More senior boys  headcoach and former 1994 Terry Fox Raven:

Along with the updates bracket which is posted below, you will also find, at VarsityLetters.ca, full and complete game-by-game breakdowns by bracket quadrants.

VarsityLetters.ca did not take part in the team selections nor the fantasy outcomes.

Here’s the results of Round One:

Varsity Letters did not take part in any of the actual selections or game results, but yours truly was honoured to be able to bring as much life as was possible to a fantasy bracket through personal remembrances, and historic data.

  1. Thanks for doing this, I enjoyed ’05 and this is great too. Two small items (when I could spend hours), firstly you referenced Duchess Park’s 4 all stars but their 5th starter Pat West was a 2nd team all-star as a Gr 11 when they went 3-1 and finished 5th and all 5 played after High School. No depth but best ever starting 5. The other item involves the ’65 final which Oak Bay won but it was Alberni they defeated in the final. I was at UBC that night as post Brian McKenzie broke his leg in the 2nd half and MVP Bob Burrows took his place in the paint. Our Grade 10 coach Ed Terris had taken the usual suspects out for the day to watch the four placing games.

    Thx again
