B.C. senior girls basketball’s sudden-elimination Tuesday: We’ve got all the details as 10 team battled for their Last chance to the Big Dance!

LANGLEY — It all came down to one last-chance-to-the-big-dance moment for 10 B.C. senior girls basketball teams on Tuesday.

With 27 of the 32 total teams already determined for the B.C. senior girls Quad-A and Triple-A championship finals, five sudden-elimination games took the spotlight Tuesday.

The five winners will be plugged into their respective draws as part of the Langley Event Centre’s 2023 Bracket Reveal Show, set to air Wednesday at TFSETV.ca

Here’s a look at the five games, which will be updated here this evening as they become available:

QUAD-A

R.E. MOUNTAIN 59 PANORAMA RIDGE 40

PORT COQUITLAM — Senior service carried the day for Langley’s Roy E. Mountain Eagles.

With a trio of Grade 12’s combining to score 45 of the team’s 59 points, Mountain peaked in fine fashion Tuesday, topping Surrey’s Panorama Ridge Thunder by 19 points, thus punching their tickets to the B.C. girls championships March 1 at the LEC.

Eva Mort led the winners, the 5-foot-7 guard scoring 14 of her game-high 26 points in the second half.

Mackenzie Dalphond, the 6-foot-1 forward, added 19 points while guard Shyla Ahn added a dozen more.

Parneet Rai hit three triples in the third quarter and finished with 14 points to lead the Thunder.

DR. CHARLES BEST 64 HANDSWORTH 33

PORT COQUITLAM — Coquitlam’s Blue Devils raced out to a 26-4 lead and were full value for their victory as they overwhelmed North Vancouver’s Royals at Riverside Secondary School.

Denise Mendoza led the winners with 20 points, while Avin Jahangiri added 13 more in the victory.

REYNOLDS 72 BELMONT 46

VICTORIA — The host Roadrunners came away decisive winners in the challenge game for Vancouver Island’s final berth to the B.C. tourney.

No game details were available.

TRIPLE A

MARK ISFLED 63 BROOKSWOOD 50

NANAIMO — Courtenay’s Ice, playing at Wellington Secondary, stormed out of the gates with a 25-point opening quarter and never looked back en route to a decisive win over Langley’s visiting Brookswood Bobcats.

Adria Russell led four Isfeld player in double figures, scoring 14 of her 18 points over the first half as the Ice took a 41-24 lead into the half.

Raina Hagel with 13, Caitlyn Follis with 11 and Mikayla Volkers with 10 helped pace the winning offence.

Brookswood, which shot 10-of-18 from the free throw line and managed one triple on the night, got 12 points from Bryn Symons, 11 from Alexa Van Der Vlugt and nine apiece from Hazel Phillips and Keeley Read.

JOHN OLIVER 56 PITT MEADOWS 39

PORT COQUITLAM — Donna Pimentel hit seven three-pointers, including three treys as part of an 11-point fourth quarter as Vancouver’s John Oliver Jokers pulled out a 56-39 win over the Pitt Meadows Marauders.

Pimentel finished with a game-high 28 points.

Queenie Salazar added 15 points in the win as the Jokers stroked nine triples on the night.

Louise Orpiano led the Marauders with nine points, while Rebecca Boyes added seven more in defeat.

The Jokers opened the game on a 13-4 run.

  1. Hi Howard – Hugh MacKinnon here. Mark IsFeld is actually a Comox Valle school located in Courtenay not a Nanaimo school. Tough to keep track where every school is from as I have been wrong many times!! Thanks for your continued support of high school sports let alone girls basketball!!
