01.09.18 B.C. girls hoop ranks: No. 1 Semi tops No. 2 Walnut Grove in Gators tourney final; Aquinas is AA’s new No. 1

LANGLEY — It was a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown at the highest tier of B.C. senior girls basketball this past weekend, and in the end, the rankings held true.

Surrey’s No. 1-ranked Semiahmoo Totems topped host and No. 2 Walnut Grove 65-60 in the Gators Invitational championship final.

As a result, the top end of the first B.C. senior girls Big 10 Triple A rankings of 2019 remain unchanged.

Both Triple A and Double A have released new polls, and North Vancouver’s St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints are the latter’s new No. 1.

At the Walnut Grove tourney, Semiahmoo arrived in the final after a semifinal win over Centennial Secondary of Calgary, while the Gators got there via a Final Four win over defending B.C. Double A champion South Kamloops Titans.

Tournament all-stars were Faith Dut and Deja Lee of the Totems, Tavia Rowell and Jessica Wisotzki of the Gators, and Maddy Gobeil of the Titans.
