B.C. senior boys basketball rankings 01.15.20: Quad-A No. 1 Centennial Centaurs hoist Beagle spoils, DP Condors soar to No. 1 at STM Chancellor

NORTH DELTA — Significant news took place at all four tiers of B.C. high school boys basketball this week.

It runs the gamut from Centennial’s continued run of Quad-A excellence, to the Triple A and Single A tiers getting new No. 1’s in the form of Prince George’s Duchess Park Condors and Chilliwack’s Unity Christian Flames, to West Vancouver’s Mulgrave Titans rolling into the Double A Top 10.

At Quad-A: At Terry Fox Jonathon Taylor-Legal Beagle classic, Kelowna lost to St. George’s 67-57 in its opening-round game, while Centennial continued to roll with a 66-60 win over Burnaby South in the championship final.

Thus, the Owls and  Rebels flipped spots at Nos. 2-3 behind the No. 1 Centaurs.

North Vancouver’s Handsworth Royals ventured to the heartland and won the prestigious BRIT tournament with a 66-61 win over the Raymond (Alta.) Comets in the championship final.

A pair of Abbotsford schools also rated mention.

Abbotsford Secondary’s Panthers, ahead of hosting this week’s aptly-named Snowball Classic, continued its unbeaten ways, improving to 14-0.

Its crosstown rivals, the Yale Lions, moved into honourable mention territory with a 10-3 record. All three of its losses this season have come at the hands of the Panthers.

At Triple A, Prince George’s Duchess Park Condors and Chilliwack’s G.W. Graham Grizzlies met in the final of the St. Thomas More Chancellor Invitational with the Condors winning 108-88. The No. 1 vs. No. 2 clash flipped the rankings this week, as Duchess Park moved into the No. 1 slot.

At Double-A, the top nine spots remained constant. North Vancouver’s Mulgrave Titans moved into the Top 10 after a dominant three-game stretch to win the Sands Hilltop Invitational in North Delta on Saturday, beating the host, Quad-A Scorpions 88-52 in the title tilt.

At Single-A, Chilliwack’s Unity Christian Flames move into the No. 1 spot after a run to the championship finals of the B.C. Christian Schools tournament this past week at Surrey’s Pacific Academy. The Flames lost 66-55 to Double-A No. 7 Abbotsford Christian in the final.
