01.13.25 edition: Whose star is rising fastest in BC SRS Top 50? Notre Dame, Grandview Hts, Mt. Boo!

LANGLEY — Response has been very positive since Varsity Letters began running the B.C. SRS Top 50 senior boys basketball rankings a number of weeks back.

If there has been a general concensus from our readers, it has centred around two points.

One, you have appreciated the fact that a vehicle now exists which puts all four tiers of play in the same set of rankings… is there better fodder for hoop heads gathering for morning coffee? (Let me know!)

Two, it has been a worthy compliment to the B.C. School Sports official Top 10 rankings.

With that said, our thanks once again to Asher Mayan and B.C. Basketball Metrics for providing a vehicle that provides valuable insight and gets more people talking about our game.

This past week, I asked Asher if he might be able to make one substantial addition to the SRS Top 50, and that would be including the previous week’s ranking next to each team.

Just like that, I’m happy to report, it has been included.

With all of that said, it’s very interesting to see who made the biggest climbs!

The leader this week?

East Van’s Notre Dame Jugglers, a 2A entry from Vancouver Sea-to-Sky, pushed its record to 10-2 on the season following its 94-66 win over Lord Tweedsmuir of the 4A South Fraser league, in the final of the Jugglers Classic on Saturday, pushing its overall record this season to 10-2.

In the process, the Jugglers jumped from No. 50 at Christmas to No. 39 this week, a northern climb off some 11 spots.

The rest of the top five climbers this week: Mt. Boucherie (4A Thompson-Okanagan, 10 spots to No. 21), Kitsilano (4A Vancouver Sea-to-Sky, nine spots to No. 28),  Fleetwood Park (4A South Fraser, eight spots to No. 19), Windsor (3A Vancouver Sea-to-Sky, eight spots to No. 25).

In addition, five schools make entries into the Top 50 this week.

They are No. 38 Grandview Heights (4A South Fraser), No. 46 Rick Hansen (3A Eastern Valley), No. 47 Walnut Grove (4A Eastern Valley), No. 48 Houston Christian (1A North West), No. 5 St. Michaels University School (2A Vancouver Island).

Here is this week’s complete SRS Top 50.

Cheers

Howard
