01.07.26 edition: Traditional powers Vancouver College, Oak Bay each open 2026 as the Quad-A biggest climbers! Here are your first BC boys basketball Top 10 rankings of the new year!

LANGLEY — Quad-A was the home of the biggest climbers over the holiday season for games played Dec. 17 through Jan. 6.

Vancouver College and Oak Bay each rose three spots with the Irish moving into No. 2 and the the Bays into No. 7.

The Fighting Irish won five straight to end December, including a 112-101 win over over then-No. 3 Kelowna and 98-91 over then-No. 2 Dover Bay in the semifinals and the championship finals respectively of the pre-New Year’s Day UVic Alumni tournament.

Meanwhile, the Bays won all four game to finish first as host of its own Gary Taylor Invitational  before Christmas, including an 80-70 win over Lambrick Park in tourney final. Oak Bay followed by beating then-No. 4 GW Graham 71-61 in first round of the UVic Alumni tournament. It later followed with losses to two teams above them in the rankings, falling 62-57 to Dover Bay and 70-60 to Kelowna. 

Ucluelet climbed four spots in the Single-A rankings to No. 3.

None of the tiers No. 1-ranked teams surrendered their rankings heading into Week 5 of the season which includes tournaments like the Alberni Totem 69, Terry Fox’s Jonathan Taylor Legal Beagle and St. Thomas More’s Rich Goulet Chancellor Memorial.
