LANGLEY — Remember those days, when it seemed like about 95 per cent of the time that the teams at the high end of B.C.’s highest-tiered class of Top 10 senior boys basketball rankings beat similarly-ranked teams from the smaller tiers?
If you watched top-ranked hoops this past weekend, you know that as part of an ongoing trend this season anyways, that those days seem done.
The scores that served as the best illustration? With last week’s ranking used, here are some of the best examples:
*Triple-A No. 3 L.A. Matheson defeated Quad-A No. 1 Tamanawis 80-77 in the championship final of the Surrey RCMP Classic at Enver Creek Secondary on Saturday.
*Triple-A No. 1 St. Patrick defeated Quad-A No. 3 Vancouver College 77-72 in the finals of the B.C. Catholic Schools tournament on Saturday at Holy Cross Secondary in Surrey.
*Double-A No. 3 Notre Dame defeated Quad-A No. 2 Holy Cross 54-51 in the third-fourth game at the B.C. Catholics.
Other scores of note this past ranking period:
*No. 3 Vancouver College defeated No. 2 Holy Cross 45-43 in the semifinals of the B.C. Catholic championships on Friday.
*No. 6 Dover Bay of Nanaimo beat No. 4 Oak Bay 77-76 on Friday at Oak Bay Secondary in Victoria.
How did those aforementioned scores re-shape much of this week’s Top 10 rankings:
Here’s the new Top 10s for all four tiers:
