Oak Bay, Seycove grab No. 1 seeds, draws for BC 2A, 3A tourneys here

LANGLEY — The Brookswood Bobcats’ bid to become the first B.C. senior girls basketball team to win four straight Triple-A provincial titles since the Salmon Arm Jewels did it to close out the 1970s remains in tact.

But if they are going to do it, the three-time defending champs and No. 3 tourney seeds may well have to beat a most stubborn new rival and then, potentially, knock off the province’s No. 1, undefeated powerhouse from the capital.

The draw for both the Telus B.C. AA and AAA draws were released via livestream Wednesday from the Langley Events Centre, which will host the four-day championships March 1-4. The B.C. junior championships will also be played over the same four days.

(Full draw below)

Victoria’s 27-0 Oak Bay Breakers were seeded No. 1, while another Langley school, the Walnut Grove Gators, sit on the same side of the draw at No. 4.

The bottom half of the draw is led by the No. 2 Abbotsford Panthers, who have twice beaten Brookswood this season.

The Double A draw features 2016 silver medalists Seycove Seyhawks of North Vancouver as the No. 1 seed.

The Okanagan Zone has four teams — No. 3 Vernon, No. 4 South Kamloops, No. 5 Immaculata and No. 8 Okanagan Mission — seeded in the top half of the draw.

Fraser Valley champion Langley Christian, the defending B.C. Single A champ, is on the opposite side of the draw from Seycove and seeded No. 2.
